The career change from U.S. government employee to independent consultant was a significant transition. A key step in this process was forming a business entity to effectively manage taxes, liability, accounting, and operations. At the time, my primary focus was on establishing myself as a consultant in the private sector, and I quickly realized that starting a business required considerable time and expertise. Thankfully I had help. What began as an obligatory task turned into an adventure full of discoveries. And while it was a valuable experience, it's not one I would recommend to someone juggling priorities.
